A Tasty California Experience

Marina Del Rey is anticipating a hot new restaurant to join its seaside town with the opening of SALT Restaurant & Bar, a restaurant dedicated to fine local Californian cuisine.

At SALT, all the food is local, fresh and dreamed up by Executive Chef Mark Gold. We go a little farther than the typical eatery by inspiring guests with an innovative take on modern American cuisine.

Guests will receive a true Marina Del Rey experience with food that is sourced from local famer’s markets. SALT takes Californian cuisine to the next level by taking simple favorites and adding a contemporary twist.

For instance, to give you a visual taste, famous California avocados will accent signature dishes like creamy hummus, breakfast sandwich, fresh farmer’s market salads, and more.

SALT will offer a daily brunch, dinner, poolside, bar, dessert and children’s menu, making it a great place for any type of occasion whether you’re with family, on a date, with a group of friends, or just flying solo looking for a place to enjoy a drink and small dish in an unparalleled setting.

If the top quality cuisine itself isn’t enough to entice your senses, the atmosphere at SALT also takes you to another level. To complement the California-themed dishes, the restaurant provides views of the beautiful Marina Del Rey harbor where you have the option to enjoy your meal in our outside seating patio. You also have the choice to lounge at the bar and enjoy one of many handcrafted cocktails, a glass of wine sourced from local California wineries, or one of our draft or bottled beers, lagers and IPAs.

Our craft cocktails are each made with innovation and quality taste in mind such as our signature “DRY” cocktail which is made up of Green Tea-Infused Hendrick’s gin, cherry herring, Benedectine, fresh lemon juice, and ginger beer.

Party Time: The Wayfarer Grand Opening Event

A trendy hostel like The Wayfarer deserves a hip opening party and that’s exactly what we did on the evening of Thursday Oct. 30th. From entering by way of red carpet after the ribbon cutting ceremony to lounging in the hostel’s generous open lobby area, the party was a proper cheers to the new travel spot which officially opened in August. The night started with casual greetings at the welcoming red carpet area. This was followed with a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony to make the opening official. Special thanks to the Santa Barbara Chamber.

The party spiced up with help from Food Network’s own Meat & Potatoes Chef Rahm Fama in the hostel’s fully-equipped community kitchen. A favorite of the night, the Chef wowed guests with live cooking demonstrations featuring pork belly over gruyere mac and cheese, top sirloin over bread pudding and other delectable foods. This was in addition to passed hors d’oeuvres, the Build Your Own Taco Bar, Ice Cream Sundae Bar featuring McConnell’s Ice Cream, and fine local, crafted beverages hosted by Oreana Winery and Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company.

The Wayfarer: New hostel puts the “funk” in Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone neighborhood

Wayfarer_09It’s no secret that Spanish colonial architecture overcomes your senses upon entering Santa Barbara. But one secret that is the city’s newest gem is The Wayfarer, a new contemporary hostel located in the vibrant Funk Zone part of town.

The modern aesthetics will give the everyday traveler who happens to stroll in a whole new feel to the city. While the exterior of the hostel still embodies the classic Spanish Santa Barbara style, the interior mirrors its neighborhood’s Funk Zone artsy theme, appealing to modern minds and travelers alike.

An array of texture and color all the way from exposed brick walls to iridescent mermaids to faux fur are just a few things that differentiate this hostel from any other. The décor in particular touches up the unique appeal of the place.

“We designed this hostel with the modern traveler in mind,” said Matt Marquis, President of Pacifica Hotels, “By integrating soothing colors, playful decorative accents, communal spaces and upscale fixtures, we achieved something that is truly unique. The Wayfarer has style, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously, and we’ve found our guests love that.”

Charm and attraction can be found in every room. The front room alone is an immediate friendly “What’s up!” to travelers as it looks more like a bar with your favorite bartenders than a conventional lobby. It’s also embellished with barstools and a craft soda bar station with homemade rotating carbonated drinks.

Wayaer_12

It doesn’t end there, the hostel’s common areas give a playful pop to the atmosphere with its backlit robot statues, vibrant library books and teal back-painted glass. Guests are encouraged to meet up and kickback with a book or indulge in classic board games like Jenga or Connect Four. A shared kitchen, outdoor heated pool, and funky art pieces located around the hostel all add to the artistic appeal which makes this hostel completely unique to Santa Barbara.

Private rooms and shared rooms are both available. Each bed is custom-made and features a whitewashed oak finish, padded headboards, and denim-style upholstery, as well as built-in lighting. Beds are dressed with faux fur throws and yellow tiger pillows, highlighting a glam, yet playful flair to the rooms. A slight tug on vintage luggage straps reveals a fold-down twin Murphy bed in each private room, ideal for sleeping an additional guest.

Wayfarer_06There’s so much more to explore at The Wayfarer and beyond. Deemed as one of the “5 Boutique Hostels That Are Better Than a Hotel” by Money Magazine and “Cool, yet cheap: Stylish Hostels around the world” by USA Today, one step into this eccentric getaway is an extra kick to your more-than-ordinary Santa Barbara visit.

Experience The Wayfarer for yourself. Take advantage of 20% off your first stay with our Grand Opening special. For more information or to book a room, visit www.wayfarersb.com.

Cambria’s Annual Scarecrow Festival Delights Once Again

The coastal streets of Cambria are teeming with scarecrows! The beachside town kicked off its annual Scarecrow Festival earlier this month with local businesses and residents across Cambria’s East & West Villages, Moonstone Beach and San Simeon showcasing their best handmade scarecrow displays.

Since 2009, The Cambria Historical Society has invited the Cambria community to paper mache, paint, dress, and display whimsical scarecrows to celebrate the arrival of the season. What once consisted of 30 scarecrows has evolved into over 400 artistic straw men and women, making the festival a must-see when visiting the Central Coast in October.

This year, Pacifica Hotels own Fireside Inn on Moonstone Beach received the 2nd place honor in Most Likely to Scare Crows (or People). Meet Jack pictured below.

FiresideInn - JackFogCatcher Inn’s display asks the age-old question, “Trick or Treat?” And we think we know the answer.

FogCatcherYou can view a full list of this year’s scarecrow contest winners and more photos here.

While the judging is now over, the scarecrows and their fellow Cambrians welcome visitors all month long with events throughout October. For a full list, visit: http://www.cambriascarecrows.com/events/

The scarecrows will be patiently awaiting your arrival at the Pelican Inn & Suites, Fog Catcher Inn, Fireside Inn and Cambria Landing Inn & Suites, but they won’t wait forever.
